• Painted, sprayed or brushed. Roughly speaking, the fixture is painted the same way a car is painted. Metal parts are sprayed, or the finish is applied by brush. The critical property is that there is no size limit. A brush and a spray can cover anything, at any size. When a piece is very large, painted is the only option available.
• Galvanic, electroplating. The part is lowered into a bath with specific components and the coating is sealed onto it. The result is smooth and shiny by nature. The critical property is that the size is limited by the bath. Baths come in fixed sizes, and large objects cannot be galvanised for the simple reason that they do not fit.

Different technology, different look, and the size of the fixture often decides the technique before the designer does. That is worth knowing before you fall in love with a specific finish on a small sample and expect it to arrive identical on a large chandelier.

2. Accept that names differ. Between manufacturers the same shade sits under different invented words, and the shades themselves differ slightly. Do not chase a matching name across brands; chase the matching look.
3. Match against what is already in the room. Door handles, tap hardware, cabinet pulls, furniture frames, other fixtures. If gold is already installed, the new fixture is picked in the same tone.

• Use dedicated metal care products for gold finish. These are made for the purpose and will not lift the coating.
• Skip household glass cleaner, ammonia and abrasives. They can strip or dull the finish, especially on painted and leaf variants.
• The regime depends on whether the gold is painted or galvanic. The two behave differently under cleaning, and the spec sheet or our team will tell you which one your fixture is.
